Milan to Millennium Deaf Young People’s Heritage Project
We were commissioned to manage Milan to Millennium, a partnership project designed by Manchester Deaf Centre and the British Deaf History Society which ran from 2019 to 2020. It was an innovative project for deaf young people to research, explore and celebrate deaf heritage from the infamous Milan Conference of 1880 to the present day.
Young people took part in trips to the British Deaf History Museum (now the Deaf Heritage Centre) and the Museum of Science & Industry. A Young Curators Programme gave six young people an opportunity to find out more about the heritage sector and possible career opportunities. They visited Manchester Museum, Manchester Art Gallery, Imperial War Museum North and the Football Museum and all had pieces of work successfully entered into the AQA Unit Award Scheme.
