Developing young leaders for the future is a priority area of work for us. Through our Young People’s Planning Group we are actively engaging young people in the design of leadership programmes.
These support young people to develop new skills and participate in new positive experiences linked to the development of individual, group and community leadership skills.
In 2022 we piloted a Deaf Young People’s Leadership Programme which included a residential experience designed especially for the deaf participants and developed a bespoke AQA Unit Award which was awarded for the first time on the Programme.
We are currently developing the Programme and securing new funding to deliver it to more young people.
Some of our Young Leaders designed the ‘Quiet’ exhibition which challenges stereotypes of deaf young people through deaf heritage. The exhibition is currently on show at the People’s History Museum in Manchester until October 2023. https://phm.org.uk/installations/quiet/
